Recipe: Perfect Mandazi

Mandazi. These simple donuts from East Africa, known as mandazi, have a hint of cardamom and can be served as a sweet treat or alongside curry. I made the Mandazis on this recipe.   10. You need 2 liters of oil for frying.

Enjoyed in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania but more popular among Swahili people. Mandazi are similar to doughnuts, having a little bit of a sweet taste which can be differentiated with the addition of different ingredients. Mandazi step by step

  1. Mix flour, iliki,sugar,baking powder.
  2. Add eggs, milk, water and make a dough that is not too soft..
  3. Add oil and cover it with a plastic paper bag and leave it in direct sunlight for 30 min- 1hr for it to raise.
  4. After 1hr place it in your working table and cut your shape..
  5. Deep fry them for 5 min till golden brown..
  6. Serve and take with tea, fruit juice and soda..
  7. Enjoy...
